Modi Narrative proving to be jumla for Indian middle class
The record rise in petroleum prices angers the middle class, the core constituency of BJP that was instrumental in building Modi narrative in 2014. Besides, the tax proposals in Union budget 2018 belied the expectations of this class. The frequent paper leaks dented the Modi's image of good governance. The cash crunch during and after demonetisation has irritated the middle class. The GST regime made many goods and services consumed by middle class expensive. The black money jhumla shattered the hopes of middle class. Coupled with agrarian distress, the middle class alienation can prove to be costlier for Narendra Modi in 2019.
