BJP loses as opposition unites in the By-poll

The by-election results indicate that opposition can only challenge Narendra Modi if it can arrive at state level consolidation of anti-BJP vote. BJP in Palghar and NCP in Bhandara-Gondia in Maharastra and RLD in Kairana indicate this trend. The opposition parties winning in several assembly segments across the states coupled with Lok Sabha by-poll result reveal that it still has the potential to face Modi Juggernaut in 2019 provided they can pool their votes against BJP depending on the winnability of each party in respective states and more particular in the respective constituencies.  The earlier Gorakhpur and Phulpur reinforced the same trend.

The BJP could win Palghar as it is pitted against divdided opposition. In the same state the BJP lost its seat to NCP in Bhandara-Gondia as opposition unitedly fought.

The RJD wrested Jokihat seat from JD(U).  TMC won in Maheshtala reducing the BJP to a distant second dismissing the latter's claims of emerging as a big force in West Bengal.

Congress won  in RR Nagar in Karnataka  by  massive margin repudiating BJP's claims of having peoples mandate. Congress retains Ampati in Meghalaya. Congress also won Shahkot  assembly seat in Punjab.

The CPI(M) won in Chengannur  in Kerala.

The RLD won in Kairana parliament by-poll in Uttar Pradesh. The RLD was backed by SP,BSP and Congress. The SP won in Noorpur assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh.
